Why Assam?

The local history of Assam shows a great fear among the indigenous people, about getting displaced and mowed out by the wave of migrants that came into the state. Bengali immigration — first during the partition of British India in 1947, then on the eve of the India-Pakistan war in 1971, and still today over the state’s porous border with Bangladesh.

Political angle

Assam is part of the Northeastern landmass of India for the initial 60 years of India independence, the political reach of these states where highly limited. But all of it changed with the coming of BJP into power a concentrated effort into the northeast states. Winning Tripura from Left and playing power politics in Nagaland and Meghalaya.

A major tactic used by BJP for accumulating and reinforcing its power is to identify issues and problems that are aligned with their ideological interest.

Himanta Biswa Sarma has already stated about the purpose of the bill of protecting India’s Hindu identity.

“If this Bill is not passed, then Hindus in Assam will become a minority in just next five years. That will be advantageous to those elements who want Assam to be another Kashmir and a part of the uncertain phase there.”

Assam’s 17 assembly seats and the Muslim leader of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Badruddin Ajmal, from becoming the chief minister.

During a rally in Assam’s Bengali-Hindu dominated region of Silchar, Modi said that the citizenship bill is an “atonement for the past mistakes of partition”. Emphasising that he believes blood relations are more important than the “colour of passports”, he promised the region’s Bengali-speaking Hindus that he would make sure that they will be accepted and welcomed by “mother India” by passing this bill

Facts on NRC?

Many perceive National Register of Citizen -NRC is the final answer for all troubles in Assam. That means just by showing a piece of paper provided by the government a massive struggle and riot against minority groups could be solved. That by itself is a great problem, rather than believing local sources and families living side by side for years, greater importance is given to the authority of the ruling majority.

1951 : First-ever National Register of Citizens (NRC) of India published

1979 : Anti-foreigners’ movement started in Assam

January 1980 : All Assam Students Union (AASU) submitted the first memorandum demanding updating of NRC

August 14, 1985 : Historic Assam Accord was signed

1990 : AASU submitted modalities to update NRC to Centre as well state government

Started as a medium to check the inflow of people from neighboring countries into India, over the year it has evolved itself as a hitlist of terror for landless and documents fewer people of Assam.

Moreover, as per Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, 1955 those who came from Bangladesh between 1966 and 1971 will have to register themselves with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer, and will be included in the NRC, but will not have voting rights for 10 years from the date of registration.

Section 6A and Section 3 of the Act, which provides citizenship by birth in contravention of the Assam Accord, have been challenged in the Supreme Court.

Which Identity is protected?

In terms of protecting the identity of people involved in this chaos, the main consideration is provided to the indigenous population, which fear that their traditional land and culture will be covered by migrants. But from their perspective religion of the migrant is not a matter of importance.

This is the wedge that BJP utilizes to divide the unrest, instead of convincing the regional groups about the influence and support the migrant's groups have provided to the region they are trying to create factions within the current migrant groups. By promising land for Hindu migrants and refusing solace for Muslim migrants.

So that is the phase where issue relating to identity arise

Should we as Indians protect our diverse community identity in front of the world or should we get back to protecting our identity as Hindu nation or should we stick to indigenoue identity . Every on have right for land but with increasing population and bulging national boundaries it is high time a clear idea and action plan is laid out to decide what is our identity

BHARAT OR INDIA what is future

Division, conflict, and unrest these are not the factors that should play a major role in the formation and identity creation of any nation. But unfortunately, that is what happens.

Every action is currently choreographed by the central government as a small step towards BHARAT, it is clear. There are some major flaws in our constitution in terms of the absence of uniform civil code and uneven distribution of minority groups votes. A change could be present but by the time it is properly enforced things will change

Once we start the process of changing from India to Bharat then no one could stop us or get us back to the initial stage.

India’s strength as a nation is reflected by it’s unity in diversity . But when we try to unite or more clearly try to eliminate the diversity . It will have consequences that will change our idea as a nation for ever. It had happened before and it is more likely to happen again. But this time it is done from the heavenly framework of DEMOCRACY , it is destroying everything we stand for and anything that is left behind from the great struggles we have fought together as a NATION in the past.
